In life we all strive to find the perfect balance. Life is a constant balancing act, a shift in one area can affect another. I have been working on more life balance and have recently taken up yoga, photography and hiking, which are contributing in a positive way. I think as parents we also strive to find the perfect balance for our children. Part of this is looking for the right education; one that feels comfortable and aligned with our own beliefs. ‘The right fit’ for our children.
I feel very grateful to have found CCSC, not only as a workplace for me but also as a place of learning for my two sons. I feel that the college offers a very well balanced approach to education. Educating is not an easy task and no college or teacher is ever perfect, however I feel strongly that the CCSC staff are always striving for continuous improvement and looking for ways to support a well balanced approach for each student. What stands out to me as a parent is that there is a strong focus on supporting individual learning and all- round development through a variety of opportunities. I love that we teach English and Mathematics on an individual basis and at the point of need, regardless of age or class. I also love that we encourage independent thinking and learning through projects and don’t just spoon-feed our students information. Making students think for themselves, ask questions, and discover their own interests encourages curiosity and a passion for learning that goes beyond the classroom. We offer a variety of different sports for students to sample and many out of college opportunities such as camps, hiking treks and even overseas trips! CCSC tries to prepare our students for the future. Our college aims to produce well rounded individuals who are positive contributors in the community, who strive to be the best they can be in whatever endeavours they choose to pursue.
My children are well listened to and understood and the CCSC teachers and coaches really know them (the good and the things that need improvement) and that has been communicated with me. They have been recognised for their strengths and have had their areas of opportunity highlighted to them. I feel that a whole team is supporting them to become the best they can be both at college and in life. My boys come home with energy (not sure how that happens!) and they come home happy. Some days they tell stories of the delicious café food, other days it might be about something they learnt they were good at in the classroom. Sometimes they come home excited about a new project they are researching or an excursion adventure that is coming up. On other days they tell us that they had the best training session ever and they achieved a new goal in their sport. I feel like my children are getting a good balance between academics, sport, nutrition, community opportunities and life skills. CCSC offers students a balance in learning, life and play, just what most adults are striving for in life too!
