One of my favourite scenes from one of my favourite movies Dead Poets Society is when English teacher John Keating (played by the amazing Robin Williams) uses an engaging, simple and symbolic classroom exercise to remind his students to constantly look at things in a different way. He invites them to stand on a desk to see their classroom from an alternative perspective and explains that even if they feel they already know something, they need to challenge themselves to look at it in a different way to know more. The life lessons taught through Keating’s inspired classroom in this movie reminds me of a lot of the skills that we try to instil in our students at CCSC: To think critically, to be creative, to find your own voice, to be passionate, to think for oneself and to question … “That the powerful play goes on and you may contribute a verse... What will your verse be?”
