As the HSC quickly approaches I am certain our Year 12 students are full of mixed emotions. Not only will the upcoming month be nerve-racking but it will also be a time of reflection and excitement. As one chapter of life comes to an end a whole new chapter will be ready to begin. If I can provide any advice to Year 12 it would be to finish your collegeing with no regrets. Ensure you have given it all you have, studied as much as you possibly can and be as prepared as possible. You don’t want to look back in five or ten years wishing that you had started studying a little earlier or taken the time to complete the past papers that your teachers gave you.
You don’t want to be left wondering whether you could have worked harder to gain two or three more ATAR points. In such a short period of time it will all be over and you want to know that you have done the best that you are capable of. Each individual’s capabilities will be different, everyone has been gifted with different talents and abilities, however don’t use that as an excuse not to try your best and give 100 per cent. In the grand picture of life your collegeing plays such a small, but influential part. Take the time to appreciate the friendships you have made, the knowledge you have gained and be confident that you have done everything you can to be ready to take on your exams.
When the time comes where the exams are over and the next stage of life begins; don’t settle for mediocrity. Choose a life that excites you, a life that makes you want to get out of bed in the morning. It may sound cliche, but while you are young, embrace all opportunities that come your way. Go outside your comfort zone and live scary. Settling for a life of safety and security does not allow you to be the best version of you. I will end with a quote from Stage 6’s favourite film …The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. “To see the world, things dangerous to come to, to see behind walls, draw closer, to find each other, and to feel. That is the purpose of life.” ‘Walter Mitty’.
