As a committed (and happy) non subscriber to the so-called social aspects of the internet (blogging, facebook, pinterest, etc, etc), I struggle to produce a blog when my turn rolls around each term.
Recently, the practice of internet trolling caught my attention. It seems this is a macabre form of entertainment. The following excerpts of the definition of internet trolling sourced from the Urban Dictionary and Wikipedia pretty much sum it up:
Urban Dictionary –
Trolling requires deceiving. The most essential part of trolling is convincing your victim that either
- a) they truly believe in what you are saying, no matter how outrageous, or
- b) you give your victim malicious instructions, under the guise of help.
Wikipedia –
In internet slang, a troll is a person who sows discord on the internet by starting arguments or upsetting people by posting inflammatory, extraneous or off-topic messages in an online community (such as a newsgroup, forum, chat room or blog) with the deliberate intent of provoking readers into an emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion, often for their own and others amusement.
