I was interested in a comment made by the professional Dutch coach, Raymond Verheijen, at the recent FNSW State Coaching Conference. He said, “Do not expect your player to remember anything you just said, he or she will only do what you do.”
Raymond may be slightly exaggerating, but I don’t think his point is that far from the truth. I am sure we have all had coaches who take forever to make their coaching point, but how much is really sinking in? If a coach is not showing the players what the action should look like, then they cannot blame the players when it goes wrong. I realise that every person learns differently, but I agree with Raymond, coaches need less talk and more action.

Don’t forget the coaches who rant and rave on the sideline, abuse players and referees, and act aggressively. They then get upset when their players act in a similar way.
