The role of a coach can be a big responsibility – leading, influencing and giving advice to young players.
Coaching 15-18 year old boys and girls, rather than just give advice and influence them in a certain way, my goal is to equip the players to know themselves i.e tap into their unique potential and strive for continual growth, work out their strengths to capitalise upon, understand their limits to look after and get the best from themselves.
I’m proud of the group I’m working with. Seeing them test new ground in making decisions regarding what’s best in their training load, becoming more focused and driven to reach their goals and understanding the impact of other influences or activities on their football development.
At IFS we offer many opportunities to all and then work through the process with each individual to find their best option. It can be risky, as coaches or parents, to give players freedom of choice, but if supported and patient, it can see them take ownership, gain inner strength and grow into the mature person they want to be, with the best chance of realising their dreams.
