Harry, a boy in my training group, broke his football juggling record. As he started to count beyond his previous record, he started to waver and the rhythm was starting to get out of sync. As we all watched, we went quiet and then started to clap him on before he finally lost control. His big smile on furthering his record was a joy to see.
So many kids enjoy these types of record-breaking activities and they’re the ones who strive to better themselves most of the time. The ability to juggle a football can seem mundane to some but there are so many elements to the exercise.
Consider the following – controlled leg movements to maintain ball height, maintain good body position and posture, focus on the task, focus on the count. Physically, the body positioning alone needs stamina and strength, especially when juggling for more than five minutes at a time. Leg movements are controlled but then need to adjust quickly sometimes, in order to regain control. The right attitude to remain focused enough to continue, even when you’ve surpassed your previous record.
These types of activities are easy to do with friends, or by yourself, and create the sort of focus that can help in many aspects of everyday life. Of course, the bonus is that it means you’re off your electronics. Used wisely they can spark a desire to strive beyond just juggling…

Will this is such a classic video! How’s the music Haha. I love how our game is timeless… and the power of juggling! Thanks for sharing this.. I’m still seeing my 16 year olds struggling to master this basic skill. I tell them “Not all the best jugglers can play, but all the best players can juggle”.
Also love the grapefruit 🙂 I’ve told my boys they need to Brazilian and not whinge, but instead adapt.. Us Aussies are too spoilt, we complain when a ball is a tad flat! Try playing with a piece of fruit !

Harry was so pleased to tell us that everyone had supported his record breaking juggling session! It is lovely to see how determined and focussed he is to constantly improve himself, and what a great culture within the team to have his peers cheer him on!
